We intend to build on our current work by setting up a Bus project. The Bus Project would meet the needs of the young people in Holywell in a way that is not currently met. Our vision is to have a contemporary ‘cool’ double-decker bus that is used on at least three evenings a week, and taken into schools during the day to facilitate lunchtime clubs, lessons and to aid the school with the Extended Schools curriculum. The bus will be a place for young people to stop and connect with a more positive vision for life. Our plan is to convert the bus and turn it into a mobile youth cafe, by having the lower deck as a cafe bar and the upper deck as a chill out zone with music and a Plasma screen TV for showing DVDs.
Having this facility will enable us to meet the needs of young people by providing a safe environment for them to meet on ‘their territory’, where young people come and chill out, watch a DVD, listen to music, find out about God, be mentored, have fun, feel safe, get advice and help, be encouraged and above all be cared for and accepted by the team on board. By taking the bus onto the estates we will be able to extend provision to more young people, many of whom find themselves isolated and vulnerable in a rural community through lack of transport and facilities. We hope that by giving young people an outlet for their frustrations, by listening to them, and by being an active presence in the estates we can build relationships with them, challenge attitudes and behaviour and in turn make a positive impact in our local communities.
